I've got this book by J.D. Salinger, called Catcher in the Rye, and I'm about halfway through the book.
Has anyone else read it?

I have that somewhere in bookshelf. I don't remember much but I liked the way the story started.

I am now in the middle, and I couldn't go on. The book is so *bleeping* depressing, with Holden whining about everybody under the sky but himself.....

Its actually a book that I read when I was 16 I really enjoyed it. The character Holden was one that I could easily identify with. Its one of those books you should read when you mid-late teens. though if you want to start a disscusion about catcher in the rye then I'm in for it!

I rather liked it, suspend your judgement until it hits the end.

I finished it...... I'm not sure what the author is trying to accomplish..... I enjoyed reading it, but it just seems like a somewhat rambling two-day road trip to me.
And Holden is not really someone I can sympathise with..... I mean, I like him as a brother and all, but he is such a whiner! He bitches about everyone he meets. Phoebe sums it up the best when she asked "What do you like?".
Someone tell me if I'm missing something.

Yes. Think about the title, and various parts in the book. And about how society as a whole is portrayed in it. I don't want to just outright tell you, so just do those things.

Too late.... haha. I read the analysis of the book off the Net already. I was like "Oh.... yeah, that makes sense." Feeling literature is instinctive, but describing it sure is not.....
Good book though. I was kinda depressed after reading it, truth be told.
